Neo is a young software engineer and part-time hacker who is singled out by some mysterious figures who want to introduce him into the secret of the matrix. The cops also seem to be after him, and he takes a chance on discovering what he has always suspected that the world is not quite what it seems to be and a sinister conspiracy is at work.
Ten years ago best friends Dante Hicks and Randal Graves were New Jersey mini-mall clerks still slacking off together in their early 20s. When Dante announces that he's going to leave Jersey forever and marry Emma Bunting, Randal plots a going away party so shocking it will draw the police, the fire department and potential protests from PETA, while altering their lives forever.
A Midwestern couple are touring the sites of famous murders for a coffee-table book. Unwittingly, they are sharing the ride with a homicidal maniac and his girlfriend.
Hank, an embittered prison guard, lives with his aging racist father, Buck, and his own twentysomething son, Sonny. Hank and Sonny work for the local prison where they are preparing the electric chair for a black inmate. After the man is executed, Hank falls in love with Leticia, the inmate's widow. This emotionally charged affair forces Hank to re-evaluate how deeply prison work and his father's infectious hatred have affected his soul.
